Endodontic Surgery

Endodontic surgery, also known as an apicoectomy or root end resection, is a procedure that can be considered for cases where inflammation or infection persists in the bony area around the end of the tooth after root canal treatment. Surgery can also be done to repair damage to the external root surface, for example in cases of root resorption or trauma, or to remove cracked roots in certain cases (known as root amputation).

Dr. Pakozdi will be happy to review the details of the specific type of surgery your tooth may require.

Endodontic Surgery Alternatives

Often, the only alternative to surgery is extraction of the tooth. The extracted tooth must then be replaced with an implant, bridge, or removable partial denture in order to restore chewing function and to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. Despite advances in modern artificial tooth replacement, Dr. Pakozdi believes in preserving the natural tooth for as long as possible
